Trash Factory: how to play and how to progress through research
A simulation where you tap falling trash to collect it, turn it into money and resources, and grow your factory through research. You start with cardboard and go on to handle 10 kinds of trash, including plastic bottles, cans, circuit boards, bio waste, satellite parts and quantum devices. The more you automate with drones and conveyor belts, the more your factory keeps running even when you stop tapping.
- Players: 1 player
- Price: free
- Runs in the browser (no install)
The game screen is in Japanese.
You can start playing right away from this page without signing in. Progress is saved automatically in this browser, so you can continue the next time you open it. Sign in with a Google account to also save your progress to the cloud and continue on other devices.
Trash Factory modes
- Factory: the main game, where you collect trash and advance research. Progress is saved automatically in this browser, and also to the cloud when you are signed in
- Underground Arena (地下アリーナ): a hidden mode that appears on the title screen once your research reaches the late game (Mars Colony). It is an action mode where you fight trash monsters
Basic rules of Trash Factory
- Tap (click) falling trash to collect it for money. Plastic bottles, cans and similar trash also give resources (plastic, metal and so on) along with money.
- At first, 1 piece of trash falls per second, and the floor can hold up to 30 pieces. No new trash arrives while the floor is full, so collect often or expand the floor through research.
- Research has 70 items in 4 fields, "Materials & Research", "Logistics & Processing", "Economy" and "Physics & Energy", and finishing one item opens the next. Research costs money and, in many cases, resources too.
- Trash value depends on the type. Taking cardboard as 1: plastic bottles 1.5×, cans 3×, bio waste 4×, circuit boards and medical waste 5×, batteries 6×, nuclear waste 8×, satellite parts 10× and quantum devices 15×. New kinds of trash start coming once you get a collection permit through research.
- With the "Lucky Trash" research, 5% of trash turns gold (10× value); with "Rainbow Trash", 1% turns rainbow (50× value).
How to play on Asobi Lounge
- Tap (click) the screen to collect trash, and when you have enough money and resources, buy upgrades under "Research" (研究).
- Drones, conveyor belts, lasers and other items you get from research are turned on and off under "Equipment" (設備). Equipment keeps working automatically while the screen is open.
- Once you research "Suction Device", turning on the suction button and holding down on the screen pulls trash toward you (on a computer, you can also hold the right mouse button).
- Researching "Crafting Permit" opens the workshop, where you can make 8 kinds of gadgets, such as dynamite and magnet bombs, from resources.
- Time stops while the game is paused. Progress saves automatically, and you can resume with "Continue" (続きから) on the title screen. When you are signed in, progress is also saved to the cloud.
Example of how money grows
At first, one piece of cardboard is worth 10 yen. Each level of the "Base Value" research raises the base value of a piece of trash by 5 yen, and that is multiplied by 3 for a can or 5 for a circuit board. For example, after 4 levels of Base Value the base value is 30 yen, so a can is worth 90 yen and a circuit board 150 yen. On top of that, each level of "Ad Strategy" raises income by 10%, and each level of "Critical" adds a 5% chance to triple the income.
How automation unfolds
- "Delivery Speed" shortens the interval between falling trash (0.1 seconds per level), and "Floor Expansion" raises how many pieces the floor can hold (30 per level).
- Researching "Autonomous Drone" lets you run drones from Equipment that collect trash automatically. With "AI Control", they head to the next piece instead of returning to base.
- "Conveyor Belt" sends trash on the floor to the refinery. Running the furnace or the crusher at the refinery turns it into more resources than collecting by hand.
- Energy stored with "Solar Panels" and similar research powers defense lasers and black holes. "Compound Interest" opens the bank and "Trash Futures" opens the market.
- At the end there are two goals: "Buy the Earth" and "Multiverse".
Underground Arena
A mode where you fight in a nest of trash monsters sleeping under the factory. Suck up the materials that defeated enemies drop to turn them into ammo, and aim for the boss in room 10. Upgrades you buy in the "Upgrade Shop" with gold dropped by enemies stay in effect for all later runs. On a phone, move with the left stick and shoot in the direction of the right stick; on a computer, move with WASD or the arrow keys, aim with the mouse and left-click to shoot.
Tips for growing your factory
- Start by raising "Delivery Speed" and "Base Value" in turn to increase your income per minute.
- Getting drones that collect automatically early on greatly cuts down on collecting by hand.
- When you are short on the resources needed for research (plastic, metal, circuit boards), prioritize the trash that gives them.
- When the floor is full, no new trash arrives. If you plan to leave the game idle, expand the floor or keep automatic collection equipment running.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to sign in?
- No. Both the factory and the Underground Arena can be played without signing in. Sign in with a Google account to also save your progress to the cloud.
- Can I leave it idle?
- Equipment works while the screen is open, so the game progresses even when you leave it idle. It does not progress while the screen is closed. Progress saves automatically in the browser, and next time you can resume with "Continue".
- Can I continue on another device?
- Yes, if you are signed in with a Google account. Progress is also saved to the cloud (every minute, when you research, and when you close the screen), and signing in to the same account on another device lets you continue. When you are not signed in, it is saved only in the browser you played in.
- What happens to progress I made before signing in?
- If you sign in with an account that has no save yet, the progress you made in that browser without signing in carries over to the account (this happens only once).
- What if the save on this device differs from the cloud save?
- If the newer save has the same or more research and the same or higher total income, it is used automatically. Otherwise, the game shows the research count, total income, play time and save time side by side, so you can choose which one to continue.
- Is Trash Factory free to play?
- Yes, it costs nothing. You can start playing right away from this page without signing in. Progress is saved automatically in this browser, so you can continue the next time you open it. Sign in with a Google account to also save your progress to the cloud and continue on other devices.
