Civilization Builder (civilization clicker): how to play and progress

A clicker and management sim where you start with a small settlement of 5 people, gather resources, research technologies and build buildings to grow a civilization. There are 9 eras from the Primitive era to the modern day and the future, and the final goal is to complete the space elevator. Basic rules of Civilization Builder

  • Press the big round "Settle" button (開拓する) to get 1 food. Sometimes you also get knowledge or culture, and as research progresses, wood, stone, gold and more start to appear too.
  • Assign people to jobs and they produce resources every second. At first all 5 people are gatherers, and each gatherer collects 2 food per second.
  • Every person eats 1 food per second. When food runs out, happiness drops and the population shrinks. Production depends on happiness: 1.5× at 100 happiness and half at 0.
  • Researching technologies under "Research" (研究) unlocks new buildings and jobs, and certain technologies take you to the next era.
  • Under "Build" (建設), housing raises the population cap and workplaces add job slots. Each time you build the same building, the next one costs 1.15–1.6 times more.
  • In the final era, research "Space Colonization" (宇宙開拓) and build the space elevator to clear the game. You can keep playing after clearing it.

How to play on Asobi Lounge

  • "Next goal" (次の目標) at the top of the screen shows what to do now (such as "Build a logging camp"). Following it at first keeps you from getting lost.
  • You start with the "Build", "Research", "Jobs" (職業) and "Explore" (探索) tabs. "Policies" (制度) appears once culture builds up or you research Agriculture, and "Trade" (交易) appears when you research Currency.
  • In "Explore", you pay food and other resources to send out expeditions (up to 3 at once). There are Survey the Area (10 seconds), Explore Ancient Ruins (30 seconds) and Open a Trade Route (60 seconds), and each expedition brings back resources when it returns.
  • In the settings, you can turn sound effects and the floating "amount gained" numbers on or off, export and import your save data, and start over from the beginning.

The 9 eras and their highlights

  • Primitive era: research stone tools, weaving, mining, the discovery of fire and more. Build tents to grow your population and quarries to gather stone.
  • Ancient era (starts with Agriculture): build farms, mud-brick houses and libraries. The Pyramids wonder lowers building costs by 10%.
  • Classical era (starts with Currency): markets, academies, theaters and aqueducts. Researching Currency brings in 0.05 gold per person per second as taxes and lets you start trading.
  • Medieval era (starts with Feudalism): castles, windmills, universities and cathedrals. Notre-Dame raises the happiness cap by 20.
  • Renaissance (starts with Printing Press): banks, observatories and shipyards. The Taj Mahal multiplies gold production by 1.5.
  • Industrial era (starts with Steam Engine): coal mines, factories and power plants. The Eiffel Tower doubles what you get from each press of "Settle".
  • Atomic era (starts with Nuclear Fission): oil wells and nuclear power plants.
  • Information era (starts with Computers): semiconductor plants and data centers.
  • Modern and future era (starts with Artificial Intelligence): fusion reactors and the final goal, the space elevator.

The game in numbers

Counting the game data, there are 51 technologies to research, 34 kinds of buildings (6 of them wonders, which each civilization can build only once), 18 jobs, 11 policies and 69 achievements. You pay culture to adopt a policy, only one at a time, and switching to another policy removes the previous one's effect.

Saving, and while the screen is closed

Progress saves automatically. When you are not signed in, it is saved only in this browser; when you are signed in, it is saved to your account so you can continue on other devices. When you sign in and the account has no save yet, the progress you made in this browser carries over.

The next time you open the game, up to 12 hours of the time it was closed is calculated at once, and what you gained in that time is shown. You are also told if your people went hungry for lack of food, so before you leave for a long time, make sure your food balance is positive.

Tips for progressing

  • At first, use "Settle" to build up food. Once you research Stone Tools, move one gatherer to storyteller so your knowledge grows.
  • Assigning too many people to jobs makes your food balance negative. After adding a new job, check that food is still going up.
  • The population does not grow unless you build housing (tents and houses). Alternate this with adding job slots through workplaces.
  • Each wonder can be built only once, but its effect lasts forever. The earlier you build the Pyramids (10% off buildings), the more you gain.
  • After researching Currency, you can trade surplus resources for other resources (each exchange takes a 20% fee).
  • Try the low-risk "Survey the Area" expedition first, and send the longer expeditions once you have food to spare.
